Charnwood Bakery is one of the country's few bakeries specialising in the production of the Melton Mowbray Pork Pie.
It is within the prescribed Melton Mowbray region and uses fresh British pork to make award-winning, real Melton pies.
The business was founded in Leicester 1824 as Walker & Son. Samworth Brothers bought Walker & Son in Leicester in 1986 on the strength of the quality of its products and built Charnwood Bakery in 1989. The business had a number of retail shops for which it produced hot and cold pies, ham, sausage and other pork products. The original manufacturing site of Walker & Son, Abbey Bakery, now just produces pastry for Charnwood, and the ham and sausage site is now know as Walkers Midshire Foods.
Charnwood is a well-invested and flexible bakery able to produce pork pies and hot pies to the highest standards. It produces Melton Mowbray Pork Pies for many of the UK's leading retailers and its Walkers Pie still commands a loyal following throughout the East Midlands.
Walkers Charnwood Bakery is proud to be a member of the Melton Mowbray Pork Pie Association (http://www.mmppa.co.uk/) which fought a successful campaign to promote and maintain the integrity of our famous pies through the grant of a Protected Geographical Indicator (PGI).
